The Call of The Sea
In a small coastal village named Treforth, there lived a woman named Carwyn whose life was as calm and predictable as the mighty sea, upon whose shores she lived, was mercurial and wild. Carwyn was in her early thirties, living alone in her quaint house after her father passed away five years earlier. She worked as a teacher in the local school but her passion always lay with the sea, inheriting her father's love for the ocean.
On the fifth anniversary of her father’s death, a strange event occurred that forever changed her peaceful life. That day, Carwyn was woken up by a loud, distinctive humming sound echoing from the sea. The fog wrapped the village like a cloak, and the humming sound seemed like a cry for help, only it was not human. She brave the cold winds and walked towards the sea, drawn by the unique sound.
As she reached the shore, out of the fog emerged an injured, yet resplendent, sea creature resembling a seal but with a unique, softly glowing horn on its head. Carwyn, despite her initial shock, moved forward to help the creature. She felt an inexplicable familiarity, a compelling bond.
With much effort, she took it to her home. Over the weeks, she nursed the creature, which she named Eira, back to health. The villagers grew curious about her elusive visitor, and rumors spread fast. But Carwyn was undeterred, she felt a strange kinship with Eira that superseded the town’s murmurs.
One evening, once Eira had fully recovered, she dove into the sea and returned bearing a beautiful, pearlescent shell. As Carwyn held it, she was overcome with vivid images of undersea kingdoms, ancient sea beasts, hidden treasures, and a dire threat that loomed over this magical underwater realm.
The shell, she realized, held the power to communicate the knowledge and stories of the sea. It revealed to her the despair of the sea creatures, plagued by a monstrous predator that was causing havoc in their world. Sensing their despair, Carwyn decided to help them, as driven by her love for the sea as was her father.
The next morning, Carwyn found herself transformed into a creature similar to Eira, able to breathe underwater. She realized that Eira and her kin, called 'Sealhorns', were guardians of the sea and had passed the mantle onto her. Accepting her destiny, she plunged deeper into the sea, determined to protect the sea and its creatures.
What followed was a slew of breathtaking adventures for Carwyn undersea. She battled monstrous beasts, discovered breathtaking sights, and learned the secrets of the sea. She was accepted and loved by the sea creatures, who revered her as their new guardian.
High above on land, her disappearance caused a stir in Treforth. The villagers speculated, yet no one knew for sure. What remained, was the tale of the woman who answered the call of the sea, for the love of the sea was what she knew best.
With time, Carwyn found a way to balance her life on land and her responsibilities in the sea. She returned to her human form, resolving to protect the sea in her own way by educating the villagers about preserving the sea and its creatures.
Carwyn realized that the sea was as much a part of her as she was of it. Its stories, its woes, its joys, and its creatures were her own too. She found her purpose in the rhythm of the waves, in the whispers of the underwater world. She understood that we are all part of a grand, interwoven tapestry of life, and she had just discovered her unique thread.
