The Blacksmith and the Ethereal Wife

Once upon a time, in an ancient yet evergreen realm of Cadarnia, there lived a skilled blacksmith named Faelan. Cadarnia was a valley ruled by a just and wise king, renowned for its lush forests, mighty warriors, exquisite artisans and mythical beings. Faelan was well-known not only for his skills but his virtue of selflessness and courage, which soon became Cadarnian tales.
One day, while working meticulously, Faelan found a lustrous gem embedded within a batch of raw ore. It was unlike any jewel he had ever seen – a stone radiating a soft white light even in the gloomiest corners of his forge. Tempted by curiosity, Faelan embedded the gem in a pendant, hoping it would make a beautiful gift for his beloved wife, Ilena.
However, the moment Faelan adorned the pendant around Ilena's neck, she was engulfed in a blinding light. As his eyes adjusted, before him stood Ilena, but not as the wife he knew. She had transformed into a creature of beauty and unimaginable power, an ethereal being with iridescent wings. Ilena was blessed with the form of a Sylph – a spirit of the air.
The transformation was startling but not malignant. Yet the gem had much more than mere transformation power. It granted Ilena the ability to perceive the emotions and thoughts of their fellow beings and animals. Initially, she used her powers to help the villagers, healing the sick, advising downtrodden souls, but the overwhelming emotional influx soon became unbearable. The couple finally decided that she should remain in the sanctuary of their home while Faelan pursued solutions.
One day, when Faelan was out on his quest, an alarm bell rang out across Cadarnia; their peaceful valley was under attack, invaded by the malevolent sorcerer Malazar from a distant realm. Malazar sought the power of the ethereal gem for his nefarious purpose of world domination. The mighty warriors of Cadarnia put up a brave fight, but Malazar's dark magic was too potent.
Locked in her home, Ilena felt a surge of fear, pain, and madness through her powers. She knew she could no longer remain secluded. With newfound determination, she flew to confront Malazar. One look at her ethereal form, Malazar immediately knew she possessed the gem. As Ilena swooped towards him, he attempted to strip the gem from her, but Ilena, fuelled with the strength of her love for Faelan and Cadarnia, couldn't be subdued so easily.
At that moment, Faelan rode into the chaos wielding a shield he melted and moulded from the rest of the ore in which the gem had arrived. Realizing the shield had similar properties to the gem, Faelan hurled it towards Malazar. The shield absorbed Malazar's dark magic, leaving him vulnerable. Mustering all her remaining strength, Ilena attacked him, driving Malazar out of Cadarnia forever.
Ilena returned to her human form, but the subtle glow of the gem was forever in her eyes, and she retained her power to perceive emotions, only now, less intensely.
The realm of Cadarnia rejoiced, their tale of victory echoing in neighboring kingdoms, re-instating their power and the legend of their blacksmith warrior and his ethereal wife. Faelan and Ilena continued to live happily, forever revered for their bravery and resilience.
