Starbound

Over many centuries, humanity expanded far beyond the confines of their home planet, Earth. Millions of people staked their livelihoods on desolate moons, lush alien planets, and sprawling space stations. Among these pioneers was a young engineer named Ada who resided on Station Epsilon, a bustling hub floating amidst an asteroid belt.
Early one morning, Ada opened her eyes to the perpetual artificial daylight inside the station. She had been dreaming of an alluring melody that seemed to have been whispered to her by the cosmos itself. Captivated, Ada made a resolution: she'd calculate and follow the melody in search of its ethereal origin, even if it took her to the ends of the universe.
In order to embark on her captivating journey through the stars, Ada needed a reliable spacecraft, so she spent weeks repurposing an old mining shuttle. She christened the vessel 'Fortitude'. With the final gear in place, and the echoing melody settled at the back of her mind, Ada was now ready to journey into the unknown.
Her initial path took her across the Jovian system to the giant gas planet, Hephastus. While refueling, Ada translated her dreamt melody into a series of frequencies. She used the Fortitude's radio to play these frequencies into the cryptic void of space. The response was almost immediate – a return melody, one that was eerily similar. Ada felt a shiver of anticipation. Through a series of complex calculations, she was able to pinpoint the source: a distant constellation she knew as Orpheus. Tech affixed to her pulse, she set a course.
The journey to Orpheus was filled with peril, from rogue asteroids to sticky nebulas that threatened to ensnare the Fortitude. Their most risky encounter happened when they had to naughtily nudge past the fearsome astrogiant, Colossus. But the haunting melody never waned, growing stronger and becoming a beacon navigating her through the cold darkness.
Finally, after what felt like both an eternity and a heartbeat, Ada arrived at her destination: a lush, autumn-tinted planet. Her heart pounded in suspense when the return melody stopped, replaced by a calm silence. Ada descended upon the foreign world with mingled feelings of fear and excitement. Upon touchdown, an alien mist covered the surroundings, creating an unfathomable scene.
With one cautious step after another, Ada ventured beyond her spacecraft, adjusting her breathing apparatus. Her heartbeat echoed in her ears. In the distance, she finally saw it - a single, massive structure. More intriguing than its overwhelmingly grand size, was the millions of glowing orbs hovering around it, creating a beautiful spectrum of colors. They sang in harmony, producing the melody that had brought her across the universe. She stepped closer. The profound sense of connection and solitude was overwhelming. Somehow, through the cosmos' unpredictable chaos, Ada found a celestial harmony. A harmony only she was destined to discover.
Returning to Station Epsilon, Ada was met with applause and awe. But amid the celebration, she smiled to herself, her thoughts lingering thousands of light-years away on that autumn-tinted planet and its ethereal song. While she had often felt insignificant among the cosmos' grandeur, now, despite its incomprehensible vastness, she felt a sense of belonging.
In the end, Ada found more than she had ever dreamt. She journeyed across the cosmos, brushing past the fabric of existence. She'd became an explorer of not only space but music and herself, driven not by fear or fame, but curiosity and passion. Her experience truly embodied a line she'd once read, 'Not just beautiful, though - the stars are like the trees in the forest, alive and breathing. And they're watching me.'
