Reclaiming the Lost Crown
Once upon a time, tucked away in the gentle folds of Europe, a nation stood tall and valiant, known as Caladria. Enveloped in majestic mountains, vast fields of grain and a river which glistens under the sun, the kingdom was blessed with abundance. At the heart sat the vibrant town of Valleria, crowned with the royal castle, and ruled by King Eric, a just and beloved leader. This narrative takes a deep dive into the journey of the protagonist, young Edwald, as he embarks on an extraordinary journey to reclaim his birthright.
Edwald, a brave and bright boy of seventeen, led a quiet life in the humble hamlet of Grenlief. His father, an old soldier from Valleria, taught him the art of sword-fight, strategic battle tactics, and the virtues of a good king. Rumoured to be an illegitimate son of King Eric, Edwald bore striking resemblance with the old portraits of the royal family that hung in the town’s tavern. It was this striking likeness that landed him into trouble, as King Eric was overthrown by his treacherous brother, Morcar, who was afraid of Eric’s kin challenging his claim to the crown.
In the hushed and covert conversations in the marketplace, Edwald learnt about the murder of King Eric and Morcar’s vile ascension to the throne. Fearing for his life, Edwald’s father urged him to move to a distant land. But Edwald refused to flee. The idea of the usurper Morcar sitting on the throne of his supposed father repulsed him. He knew he had to take a stand.
With the blessing of his father and his humble village, Edwald undertook the dangerous journey to Valleria. As he descended the treacherous passes of the Greydor Mountains and crossed the thunderous Whitefoot River, he was not alone. He was accompanied by a devoted band of compatriots, who believed in his cause and valued justice.
In Valleria, Edwald laid his eyes on the golden gates of the royal castle for the first time, but the sight was tainted with the evil that rested behind them. With careful planning and clever strategy, Edwald launched an assault on the castle under the cloak of darkness. The usurper's guards were caught off guard as Edwald and his force burst into the castle, their cries of battle echoing in the chilly night air.
From the shadows, Edwald watched Morcar, wrapped in fine silks, an image of corruption and malice. Steeling his resolve, he challenged Morcar, igniting a battle that shook the castle's grand hall. Observing Morcar’s battle technique, Edwald recalled the lessons from his father and using his wit and agility, he finally thrust his sword ensuring the downfall of the tyrant.
As Morcar fell, a deafening silence swept over the hall. Rising tall amidst the sea of silent soldiers, Edwald held up the bloodied sword of his fallen enemy and claimed the crown. With the break of dawn, Valleria awoke to a new king, a king of the people, a king who had reclaimed his father’s throne, a king they had been waiting for.
Edwald's reign saw Caladria flourishing once again, echoing the justice and valor of old King Eric. Our young king won the hearts of the people, proving that he was indeed the rightful heir to the throne. His brave journey continues to illuminate the pages of Caladria’s history, inspiring generations with a tale of courage, sacrifice, and the undying thirst for justice.
