Prince Demerus and the Illuminary Tree
Once upon a time, many centuries ago in a tiny land unnoticed by most mapmakers, hidden deep in misty valleys and lush forests, stood the peaceful Kingdom of Tynk. The kingdom was nested at the foot of the towering Ivory Peaks.
Tynk was blessed with a unique magic tree named Erudis, producing the whitest, fluffiest, most nourishing fruits called Illuminaries. The fruits had the capacity to illuminate their surroundings and provide everlasting knowledge when consumed. The secret of its cultivation was passed down the royal lineage. Thus, Tynk was known for its superior wisdom and light.
King Leopold the IV, an upright, gentle ruler, known for his wisdom, steered Tynk through many storms. His queen, Anastina, was an epitome of beauty and grace. They were blessed with a son, Prince Demerus, who radiated brilliant allure inherited from his parents.
Demerus, on his eighth birthday, curated his first Illuminary harvest and tasted the magical fruit. Over the years, his wisdom grew in leaps and bounds, his intuition deepened, and he enlightened himself on diverse subjects. He was adored for his compassion and humility. Unbeknownst, a storm was brewing that would challenge the young prince's mettle.
A day came when Erudis bore no fruits. Darkness started conquering Tynk, panic ensued, and people’s enlightenment began to evaporate. Demerus, now a wise young man, decided to investigate. He consulted Fynn, the kingdom's ancient soothsayer who suggested that the tree might be dying.
His advice to Demerus was, 'travel to the End of the World and find the Cave of Ancients. Deep within, resides an ancient being named Xephos. He alone possesses the knowledge to resurrect Erudis.' With a heavy heart, Demerus set out on his challenging journey.
Alien terrains, foreign customs, and unknown dangers were his constant companions, but his determination was unwavering. After months of arduous travel, he finally reached the Cave of Ancients.
Inside the cave's labyrinthine depths, he met Xephos, a frail, ancient being, more ancient than time itself. Xephos warmly welcomed him and inquired about his purpose. Upon hearing his problem, Xephos replied, 'Resurrect Erudis, you must offer a pure soul imbued with plentiful wisdom and courage. It's an irreversible process.'
Demerus, without a second thought, offered his soul, quoting 'For the well-being of my kingdom, I am ready.' Xephos admired Demerus's bravery and compassion. He agreed to perform the ritual, taking Demerus's soul and infusing it with Erudis.
A dazzling light engulfed Tynk, and the kingdom lit up once again, reflecting the wisdom of their Prince. Though saddened by their loss, the people admired and loved their prince even more, remembering him for his selfless sacrifice for the kingdom's well-being. Henceforth, Erudis shone brighter, illuminating more knowledge, and the sacrifice was reminisced every year at the Festival of Light.
And so, till this day, the light of Demerus's wisdom and his tale of courage continues to guide the people of Tynk, illuminating their lands, hearts, and souls.
