Mirrors of Fate
In a kingdom far away, not located on any extant map, known as 'Alclearia,' everyone lived peacefully and prosperously because of the wisdom of their beloved King Arthur. There were a plethora of mystical elements in the boundaries of the kingdom, both to entertain and to test the wisdom of the dwellers, the most intriguing being the 'Mirrors of Fate.'
The legend was that the mirrors showed one's future, but only to the pure of heart. They were placed in the center of the village square, overlooked by the splendid castle, and watched over by King Arthur himself. The mirrors were mysterious, tangible yet incorporeal, presenting nothing but reflections of the present to most.
On the eve of his fifteenth birthday, the king's only son, Prince Edwin, was eager to test his heart's purity. At dawn, he visited the mirrors. Unlike others, he did not see his reflection but instead, an image of his father lying pale and still, encompassed by mournful faces.
Driven by terror, Edwin begged the head adviser, David, for guidance. However, the cautious adviser suggested keeping it a secret as the mirrors never lied and the news would cause panic.
For the next few days, Edwin was overwhelmed by melancholy, yet he did his best to keep his father cheerful, relishing every moment spent with him. His sadness did not escape the king's keen eyes. Edwin confessed. The king took a moment to absorb the shocking revelation, and then held Edwin tight.
'Fear not,' he said. 'Every man must meet his end. It's just that I now know mine. The mirrors show us these unfortunate events because we possess the power to alter them. The challenge is figuring out how.'
Edwin, moved by his father's courage, resolved to change the king's fate. He sought assistance from the wise sage Enoch, who lived in the secluded greenery of Alclearia. Enoch explained, 'The mirrors reflect our deepest convictions. If you truly believe you can alter the future, then you can.'
Driven by a newfound determination, Edwin embarked on a six-month quest to bring back the pollen of the Lotus Vertex, a flower known for its extraordinary healing powers, found far beyond their kingdom in the treacherous Pinebite forests.
Journeying through harsh weather and dangerous predators, Edwin grew in strength and wisdom. After months of perilous challenges, he reached the flower, glowing subtly among deadly thorns. With careful precision, Edwin retrieved the pollen, embarking instantly on his journey back.
Upon reaching the kingdom, he was greeted by a sorrowful atmosphere. King Arthur had fallen gravely ill and was barely hanging on to life. Edwin hurried to the castle, handing over the pollen to David, who with the sages prepared a potion.
As the king ingested it, everyone waited with bated breath. Hours passed and as the first rays of sunrise streamed through the castle windows, the king stirred awake. The moment was joyful and triumphant. Edwin, the young prince, had managed to alter fate, just as his father believed he would.
From that day forward, the 'Mirrors of Fate' was believed to be a tool not just for foreseeing the future but also an instrument to challenge it. Prince Edwin's bravery was remembered in the history of Alclearia, for he taught them the biggest lesson - fate, like a mirror's reflection, can be changed.
