Love in Olympus
There were days when human interaction was as simple as leaving your home for community events or roaming in the park. But ever since the world had significantly changed due to the outbreak of a mysterious disease, leaving your home posed a big risk. Technology had always been a secondary mode of communication, with in-person meetings being the norm. But with the world turned upside down, technology had become the primary mode of interaction.
In such disheartening times, Tom and Emily found solace in each other, not in person. They had met through a virtual reality game, Olympus, where one could literally wander amidst Gods. One can become anyone, do anything - from conquering lands to falling in love.
Tom was a soft-spoken accountant in reality, but in Olympus, he was 'Titan', the indestructible warrior king. Emily was a single mother working two jobs to make ends meet; she was 'Athena', the wise and courageous goddess in Olympus.
Their avatars met during a fierce battle where Athena saved Titan from an imminent death orchestrated by a mythical beast. Their bond grew stronger each day at Olympus. Discussions ranged from virtual quests and mythical creatures to reality's harsh challenges and sweet moments.
One day Titan appeared disturbed. Athena approached him in the 'Elysium Fields,' their usual meeting spot surrounded by flowers that glowed under moonlight while celestial music played soothing tunes. Athena sensed his distress, which seemed permeated from the real world.
Titan confessed his feelings for Athena, explaining how this virtual world wasn't enough for him anymore. Athena was speechless. She too, had been wrestling with similar emotions. They confessed they were in love, in a world where they weren't themselves.
The wisdom of Athena and bravery of Titan proposed a solution. They decided to meet in the real world.
Tom donned his protective suit fashioned to combat the epidemic and made his way to meet Emily. Similarly, Emily took all precautions and waited for Tom in an isolated park, the only spot that was relatively safe.
As Tom saw Emily from a distance, his heart pounded. He'd only known Emily as Athena, her avatar. Meeting Emily, the real, was like meeting a new person. Emily's hands trembled, holding a picture of Titan that she'd printed out, her only reference of Tom.
As they saw each other, their hearts recognized what their minds were still processing. The love which had flourished in the virtual world, was right there, standing in front of them, even more intensified and real.
Life amidst chaos was difficult, but their love story wrote itself. They knew, even if the world was falling apart, their virtual connection led to a real spark, a love they would cherish forever, in Olympus or on Earth.
