Embers of Time
Once upon a time, in the year 2075, in the heart of a bustling city lived a brilliant scientist named Dr. Lucas Bernard. He was a unique man obsessed with an extraordinary concept: Time Travel. His laboratory, a 20th-century house turned into the eclectic scientific workspace, was a testament to his relentless pursuit.
Lucas's best friend, Emily, was a history professor with an insatiable thirst for exploring the various eras of mankind. Unlike Lucas, Emily believed in living in the present, but her desire to explore the past was on par with Lucas's scientific ambitions. She never missed an opportunity to visit Lucas's house daily in her free time to learn about his progress.
For countless nights, Lucas had worked relentlessly on his time-traveling machine, which he fondly called, 'Ember.' After years of failures and relentless pursuit, Lucas finally tasted success. The machine sparked to life, sending ripples in time and space visible only to the detectors in the lab.
Sharing his achievement with Emily, they both decided on an adventure they would embark on. Lucas wanted to see the future, while Emily, the history enthusiast, desired to peek into the past. After much discussion, Lucas agreed to Emily's idea. They chose to travel to ancient Egypt, an era Emily loved the most for its mystic charm.
With trepidation and excitement, they geared up to embark on their journey, and Ember sprang to life. In the wink of an eye, they were transported back to the land of pyramids and the Pharaohs, around the year 2570 BC. They were invisible observers to the lives of people who existed almost 4500 years ago. Emily's joy knew no bounds as she saw the history she had only read about come alive right in front of her eyes. They were witnessing the construction of the Great Pyramid of Giza and the majestic reign of Pharaoh Khufu. The colorful markets, the Nile river's vivid flow, and the intriguing hieroglyphs: they witnessed them all, filled with awe and delight.
This trip into the past, however, ended up being more than just an excursion. When they returned to the present, they discovered an anomaly; a piece of stone from the pyramid's construction site had somehow traveled back with them. Lucas realized Ember not only could transport living beings across time but also non-living objects. The implications of this discovery were profound and alarming.
The remaining story revolves around Lucas and Emily trying to set right the potential harm caused by their ambitious adventure. The ripple they created by bringing the stone back started affecting the present in mystical ways. Strange energy discharges and unexplained weather events were creating chaos. They had to make a decision - they had to send the stone back to where it belonged, to set things right, an action that risked erasing their memories of this extraordinary adventure.
In the climax, they once again used Ember, this time only to transport the stone back to its original timeline. As the stone disappeared with a flash, everything returned to normal in their present day, 2075. However, as feared, they both lost all memories of their time-traveling escapades, and Ember was back to being an incomplete project in Lucas's lab.
The story ends with Lucas and Emily resuming their everyday life, with the faint warmth of an unremembered friendship and adventure - an ember of time- softly glowing in their hearts.
