Ember of the Lost City
Once a time, in the midst of the deep forest and high mountains, was a city known as 'The Lost City'. A city that many believed was only a myth, a tale told at the fireside, meant to keep the spirits of adventure alive. However, for young Elias, it was more than just an old wives' tale; it was his destiny.
Elias, a bright young man, lived with his family in a small village bordering the legendary forest. He was fascinated by the tales of the Lost City with its untold riches and ancient magic, stories passed down from his late grandfather. Every day, he dreamt of finding this city, solving its mysteries and proving to all that the tales were true.
One day, while Elias was examining a map passed down along with the stories, he noticed some emergent patterns. It was a map charting a constellation of stars, in the same configuration he had seen, showered in the skies the previous night. Elias remembered his grandfather's words, 'The city reveals itself to those who believe, under the shadow of the stars.' With a realization striking in his eyes, Elias grabbed his bag, kissed his mother, and embarked on a journey towards his destiny.
Walking for days, Elias encountered treacherous hills, dangerous animals, and chilling weather. Yet, what shook him the most was the eeriness of the lost city stories ringing in his ears each night, making him question his sanity and resolve. Was he on a fool’s errand? Were the tales just tales - creators of false hope? But the memory of his grandfather, a twinkle in his eyes while narrating the stories of the lost city, became Elias’s constant companion, keeping him moving forward.
Finally, Elias reached a yawning cavern hidden deep in the forest. Inside, stalagmites and stalactites stood sternly, as if guarding the secrets of centuries. His heart pounded as he ventured inside, his only source of light a flickering torch. The deeper he went, the more he felt a strange connection to the place. As he neared the end of the cavern, an ancient gate with intricate symbols faced him. This, he realised, must be the gateway to the Lost City!
Examining the symbols, he found constellations, mirroring those on his grandfather's map. Remembering the constellation from the night he began his journey, he found a way to align the symbols just right to represent that constellation. There was a thunderous groan, as the gate slowly began to open, revealing a city bathed in ethereal light.
The Lost City was even more magnificent than the tales suggested. Grand palaces and statues, reflecting ingenious craftsmanship, were scattered across, all bathed in the warm glow of an unknown source. Curiously absent of any life, the silent city still felt very much alive to Elias. The city was a monumental testament to an ancient civilization now lost in the fabric of time.
For days Elias explored the city, witnessing breathtaking artifacts, rare jewels and uncovering pieces of history long forgotten. He found evidence of medical advancements, literature, art, culture and celestial knowledge far beyond what his own era could comprehend.
Realizing the importance of his discovery, Elias started creating detailed maps and sketching the artifacts. He was no longer interested in the wealth of the city; instead, he was fascinated by its knowledge, its history. The tales from his grandfather cherished a new life.
As years rolled by, Elias continued to explore the lost city, unraveling its many secrets. He brought back tales of its grandeur and knowledge to his village, slowly altering the perception of the city from myth to reality.
Elias never sought the material treasures of the Lost City. His real discovery was the wisdom of a lost era, the tangible bridge it created between the past and the present, and the untold stories it held within its silent walls.
In the tales he had been told, the Lost City was a place of riches and grandeur. When he found it, indeed it was. But not of gold and jewels, rather of wisdom, knowledge and unthinkable advancement. His grandfather was right. The city had revealed itself to him, gifting Elias its greatest treasures - its forgotten stories, its unparalleled knowledge, and his own destiny fulfilled.
