Ember: The Dragon of Prosperity

Beneath the canopy of a large, sturdy oak, nestled on the edge of an unassuming forest, an old, worn-out cottage stood. It was the home of a widow named Madam Augustine and her two daughters, Isabella and Bella. Life was hard for the trio. They worked tirelessly, their sweaty brows under the heat of the sun an everyday ritual, as they took care of their small piece of land and the few animals they owned. Grave financial difficulties had seized them, forcing them to take up odd jobs in the nearby town.
One day, as Isabella, the elder daughter, was working in the fields, she found a peculiar, gleaming egg nestled between the roots of a giant tree. Its shimmer was fascinating as was its aura, which seemed to pulsate with a calm and serene energy. If Isabella had known that this ordinary-looking egg was, in truth, a Dragon's Egg, she might have left it alone. Instead, curious, she picked it up, cradling it gently, feeling a strange bond with the unusual item.
The days rolled into weeks; the egg remained a constant companion for Isabella, forgotten by the world at a windowsill in their humble cottage. One stormy night, however, the egg began to vibrate and shake. An intense light bathed their small dwelling, startling both Isabella and Bella, whilst their mother slept soundly. A long, leathery snout pushed its way through the shell, followed by a pair of wide, obsidian eyes. A dragon hatchling emerged, little flares of bluish fire sparking from its nostrils, its scales shimmering with a spectral sheen. As it unfurled its wings, fluttering them weakly like a newborn bird, the two girls could only watch in awe.
They named the dragon Ember, a quirky, innocent, and mischievous creature, much befitting his name. The days grew brighter with Ember's cheery antics, providing solace to their seemingly insurmountable burdens. Despite their initial fears, the girls ensured Ember remained a secret, fearing the harm the townsfolk might inflict upon their newfound friend if they discovered his existence.
Ember, sensitive and receptive, soon discovered his ability to transmute small objects into gold. His sporadic gifts of gold began alleviating their financial troubles. Word got out about their sudden good fortune, attracting both jealousy and curiosity. One day, the sharpest of the townsfolk, a man named Mr. Tobias, followed Bella back to their cottage and discovered Ember's existence.
Overcome by greed, Tobias sought to capture Ember and exploit his gift. He rallied his confederates, spreading the word about a supposed 'stone dragon laying golden eggs.' The tranquillity of the little world the girls and Ember had delicately spun began shattering. When the threat arrived at their doorstep, the girls chose bravely, steadfastly deciding not to hand over their beloved friend. A fierce confrontation ensued, Ember's fierce fire offering protection. Tobias nearly got hold of Ember, a cruel gleam in his eyes, but a quick-thinking Bella threw a bucket of water over him. Stunned, he fell back, allowing Ember to set his coat on fire. The sight of Tobias running away with his coat aflame sent the crowd scurrying.
The victory was short-lived, however, as Bella was grievously injured during the skirmish. Ember’s fiery breath, although saved them, stole a life-altering toll on Bella. Over in the corner, Bella lay, pale and nearly unconscious. Seeing her, Ember's eyes filled with a pearlescent sheen, the dragon lowering his snout over her. Reacting as though by instinct, he let out a soft, warm gust of fire, enveloping Bella. The fire, gold and soothing, absorbed Bella's pain, her wounds slowly started to disappear, and her strength returned. From that day forward, they decided to share Ember's remarkable gifts secretly; they began helping other needy families and transformed their town into a place of prosperity.
The unsuspecting town attributed their good fortune to divine intervention, entirely unaware of the magical dragon living at the outskirts. Isabella, Bella, and Ember continued living their lives harmoniously, the bond between the sisters and the dragon only strengthened over time. Their tale spread through whispers in the wind, the chronicles of an endearing saga of friendship, courage, and magic, and of two sisters who unearthed a miracle that changed their lives forever.
