Cortez and the Enchanted Tree

Once upon a time, in the heart of an ancient kingdom, was a beautiful garden. The garden was the life source of the kingdom, known for its enchanting beauty and exotic herbs. But, the most captivating sight in the garden was a gigantic tree, which was reputed to be over a thousand years old.
The people of the kingdom revered this grand old tree as it was utterly unique – it bore a variety of fruits of all seasons at any given time. Be it juicy apples of autumn, succulent berries of spring, or sweet mangoes of summer – one could find them all, anytime. This tree was seen as a divine boon, nourishing the kingdom with an unlimited supply of food throughout the year.
The enchanting tree was guarded by a young and brash knight named Cortez. Although Cortez was well-trained and valiant, he was known for his vanity and arrogance throughout the kingdom. He attributed the kingdom's prosperity to his defense of the tree and never acknowledged the power and blessings of the tree.
One early morning, as the first rays of the sun kissed the land, an old, frail lady approached the grand tree. The old lady was actually an enchantress in disguise, keen to test the virtues of the arrogant knight guarding the tree.
'Kind sir,' the old lady began, still panting from the long trek, 'I am weary and hungry. Could you spare me a fruit from the tree?'
Cortez, unimpressed by the old lady, scoffed. 'Why should I give you any?' he retorted. 'This tree and its fruits are for this kingdom alone.'
Unfazed by his rudeness, the lady pressed on, 'I come from a distant land, having heard tales of this unusual tree. It's only a humble request for a little sustenance.'
However, Cortez, clenching his fists, sternly declined her plea and ordered her to leave immediately. The old lady, upon discovering his lack of empathy, decided to teach him a lesson. Revealing her original form as the powerful enchantress, she placed a curse on the majestic tree.
From that day onwards, the unique tree only bore fruit in its season, just like any other tree. Disbelief and sorrow filled Cortez's heart as he saw the miracles of the tree fade. The kingdom, which previously thrived on the year-long availability of various fruits, now faced scarcity and the disruption of an equitable distribution system.
Filled with remorse, Cortez embarked on a journey to find the enchantress, an expedition that tested his endurance and his character. He crossed treacherous mountains, sailed across turbulent seas, and navigated through perilous forests. Along the journey, he encountered many downtrodden and impoverished; he helped them and learned the virtues of empathy and humility.
After a long journey over a year, Cortez stood before the enchantress, no longer the brash knight but a humble servant of his people. He pleaded for her mercy to lift the curse. The enchantress, seeing the transformation within Cortez, agreed on one condition; he must continue serving others with empathy and humility.
Cortez agreed, and the enchantress lifted the curse. When he returned to his kingdom, the tree had once again started bearing fruits of all seasons. The kingdom rejoiced, and Cortez, no longer arrogant, served his people with humility. He would sit under the magnificent tree, share its delicious fruits with travelers from near and far, and tell tales of his transformation.
From being a display of arrogance, the tree turned into a symbol of humility and generosity, reminding everyone of their duty towards fellow beings. And Cortez, once known for his vanity, became the kingdom's beloved, leading a life filled with kind deeds and noble actions, all under the shade of the again-bountiful tree.
