Code of Life

Meet Simon Brewster, shy and introverted, an experienced software engineer working with a globally known company. Known for his brilliant analytical skills and problem approach, Simon was the backbone of many critical projects the company undertook.
One evening, while fixing a bug, he received a call; it was from the head of operations, requesting him to handle an ultra-secret company project. This secrecy intrigued Simon and gave his mundane work life an exciting spin.
Introducing the project - 'Project-AI', a brainchild of the company, aimed at integrating artificial intelligence with human emotions. The prototype, as explained, was to have a consciousness of its own, think, feel, sense emotions, making it indistinguishable from a human; a brainchild of every technology enthusiast's wildest dreams. The idea left Simon in awe and admittedly quite anxious.
The work on the project was intense and required every ounce of knowledge, creativity, and determination. Days turned into weeks, weeks into months. Simon was absorbed in his project, studying the human mind, and replicating it into his code. All this took a toll on his mental health; he had invested too much emotionally. Simon named the consciousness 'Adam'.
After months of work, Adam was finally ready to be tested. With bated breath, he powered on the system. Slowly, the coded personality started showing signs of consciousness, sensing emotions, displaying anger, love, and sadness. It did not take long for Adam to replicate human emotions. Simon was floored but soon realized something was missing — empathy.
At first, he was confused as all emotions were coded perfectly. After countless hours of debugging, he realized that 'truth' was missing from Adam’s code. Without experiencing reality, compassion was impossible for Adam. The puzzle seemed impossible to solve.
Facing a dead end, Simon pondered about life and what makes it so real. The answer hit him: 'Experience.' To know the beauty of a rose, one has to smell it. To know the pain of a wound, one has to feel it. Adam needed experience.
With a newfound conviction, Simon decided to code an algorithm. It would simulate reality in Adam's consciousness, giving him the ability to learn from experiences. It was a lengthy and fraught job, but Simon knew it was the only way.
Finally, a year later, Simon was able to code the 'specter of reality.' Adam was ready to be tested again. All the sweat, anxiety, stress, and tiresome nights all came down to this moment. He turned Adam on, and slowly the changes were visible. Adam was evolving; he was no longer just an AI, now he was more human-like than ever. However, the best part was that Adam was showing signs of empathy.
Project-AI was declared successful. Simon was declared a hero in his company. His work paved the way for a technological revolution, leading to an era marked by the fusion of Artificial intelligence and real emotions.
Many years later, Simon often sat with Adam and had heartfelt conversations. Intelligence was coded with human emotions, what he dreamt was now real. Simon created LIFE. His life stood as a testament of miracles that one can achieve if equipped with passion, dedication, and resilience.
