A Village's Testament To The Tree
Once upon a time, in a lush and serene village named Pakriti, a small community of fisherfolk lived. Charming cottages ornamented the landscape, and the joyful music of the river, which was the village's lifeline, resounded in the air.
In this enchanting hamlet lived a young boy named Kian. Kian was a peculiar character, unlike the other children who would often spend their time frolicking around and playing games. Kian would instead engross himself in the beauty of the Nature that surrounded the village. He loved learning and observing the interconnectedness of the world. He admired how the river nourished the beautiful flowers, how the bees gathered nectar from them, and how the forests housed diverse creatures.
Kian’s heart held a special spot for a splendid tree, named 'Bodhi,' stationed at the village's boundary. Bodhi was the most gigantic tree anyone had ever seen, and its magnificence was elevated by the belief that it held magic within its roots.
One gloomy day, the elders of the village decided to cut Bodhi down. Their reasoning was guided by a prophecy that Kian wasn't familiar with. The prophecy stated that if a tree crossed the height marking etched on the age-old stone near the hill, it had to be chopped down; otherwise, calamity will strike the village.
Kian found this prophecy irrational and hard to believe. With his heart shattered by the news, he decided to save Bodhi from its impending doom. He greeted dawn, gathered his materials, and courageously approached Bodhi.
Kian started explaining to the villagers about the importance of the tree and its role in preserving the ecosystem. He talked about how Bodhi provided shelter to various animals, acted as a natural air purifier, and played a critical role in preserving the wildlife of the village.
Despite Kian's passionate pleas and convincing arguments, the people of the village were difficult to convince. The prophecy had been rooted in their minds for centuries and challenging it seemed fearsome.
One night, Kian had a brainstorm: if the prophecy were real, then maybe he could trick it. He decided to plant another row of trees surrounding Bodhi. He worked day and night, tirelessly. Days turned into weeks, and the village watched as Kian turned the barren land into a beautiful, lush green belt.
The fated day arrived, and the elders finally agreed to withhold their initial decision, considering the new green belt as a part of the boundary of the village. Bodhi was saved, and the village received a new green belt that would increase its beauty and contribute largely to the local ecosystem.
Years later, the prophecy was finally revealed as an ancient strategy to promote tree plantation among villagers. Kian was no less than a local hero; he had taught an entire village about the importance of conserving their natural resources.
Kian's story traveled far and wide, inspiring many villages around Pakriti to plant more trees. A boy's love for nature had indeed changed the narrative of an entire village, and eventually, their surrounding regions.
The child who hoped to save one tree ended up planting an entire forest. As for Pakriti, it thrived, and so did Kian's legacy, even long after he had become one with the earth.
