A Dance Across Time
Once upon a time, in a remote village lived an old man named Raman, known for his ability to recount captivating tales. One tale in particular, that about his ancestors, often fascinated the villagers. Those young and old would gather around him to hear the enchanting tale of 'A Dance Across Time'.
In the year 1820, Raman's great-great-grandfather, Aditya, was an accomplished dancer. Aditya was famous for his intricate dance steps and riveting performances that were a sight to behold. His skills were not an innate talent, but the result of years of perseverance and intense training under the legendary Guru Ramakant, also known as the 'Dance Maestro' of their age.
Despite his fame, Aditya was a humble man who held a deep respect for both the art form and his guru. This quality made him particularly admirable and endeared him to all. His kindness, humility, and talent made him loved by everyone.
One fateful night, Guru Ramakant called Aditya to his dwelling. He revealed a secret that he had kept hidden for years. Guru Ramakant was not just a guru but a protector of the ancient dance form that had the power to manipulate time. This secret form, named ‘Kal Nritya’, had been passed down through generations to one chosen disciple.
Astounded yet humbled, Aditya absorbed the enormity of the responsibility that was being entrusted to him. Guru Ramakant explained the rules: the power is not to be used for personal gain; if misused, the dance could wreak havoc on time's delicate fabric, causing cataclysms in both the past and future.
Years passed, and Aditya became an expert in the Kal Nritya. The villagers, unaware of the underlying power behind his dance, continued to be mesmerized by Aditya's performances. His popularity spread far and wide, finally reaching the ears of the British colonial officers.
Intrigued by the tales of the mesmerizing dancer, the officers decided to organize a grand performance in honor of the visiting Governor-General. Aditya was ordered to present his dance there. Though unhappy with the rulers, Aditya decided to perform to uphold his guru's honor and the sanctity of his art.
On the day of the performance, Aditya danced like never before. His steps resounding with the vigor of a thunderstorm and the grace of a calm river. The audience looked on in awe, but within that captivated crowd, an assassin took advantage of the distraction. He set his sights on the Governor-General.
Sensing the impending danger, Aditya was faced with a dilemma. He decided to break the first rule set down by his guru. With a heavy heart, he used the Kal Nritya to slow down time.
Time stopped. Birdsong halted midsong. Applause hung in the air. Aditya, in this frozen timeline, deflected the bullet that was meant for the Governor-General. Time returned to its normal pace just as the bullet clinked harmlessly away.
The crowd, unknowing of the danger, applauded thunderously at the unintended climax. The assassin, his plan failed, disappeared into the night. Aditya, with the ordeal behind him, felt a profound peace.
Weeks later, Aditya passed away peacefully in his sleep. To the world, he was the mesmerizing dancer, but to Raman, he was the ancestor who danced across time.
This lore fascinated the villagers, leaving them in awe of the mystical powers their forebearers held. It inspired them to remember their art forms and value them deeply.
And while Raman narrated these tales, he couldn’t help but wonder what would happen if he danced the Kal Nritya. He was, after all, the last in the lineage of Aditya.
